Ledges had their hunt during first season. Weather conditions were terrible. Deer were not moving at all. They only distributed thirty tags this year and out of those only 11 or 12 tags got filled. Our group of four guys that went filled three tags but only because we got lucky. There were still plenty of deer in the park.

Hadn't heard anything about it so we were wondering if they were allowed to hunt there or not. Thanks for the information. Sounds like they didn't get them hardly anywhere since they opened it up again for awhile.

Last I had heard the DNR stated they were down 35,000 total deer harvested from the previous year which was down from the year before that. The legislature (insurance lobbyists) are getting anxious to get the deer herd "under control". Hopefully government doesn't get involved any more than it already is.

You should post some pics from your hunt if you have them.

Here is a photo of from a buffalo hunting trip to South Dakota.

35,000-you are kidding? I don't think the people are getting the licenses like they use to either. We live out in the country and there just wasn't the shooting like we have heard in years past. And believe me the deer are all over the place. There wasn't even cars along the road down by the river like there had been in the past. People scared of the deer disease or something?

I don't think it is CWD that people are scared of. I think private ground that was once accesible to the courteous hunter (that asked the landowner for permission to hunt) is scarce. Big tracts are being bought for "investment" purposes. Public ground is being squeezed and more people are getting sick of the idiot hunters banging away. I no longer feel safe going on some public ground around Boone during shotgun deer season. Too many once a year hunters. The once a year hunters won't venture out long or seriously in the weather conditions we had for first season either. Second season was no cake walk with all the ice accumulated on the hillsides. We had to seriously work for every deer we took this year. Numbers of deer harvested is down because this year the elements favored the animals. Hey, that's why they call it hunting.

I'm for reintroducing wolves in Iowa, a natural predator of the deer.
