Supposedly, that's where Home Depot is going. Kum & go will build a truck stop to the north around S. 16th I was told. We will see.

February? Brr... No way I am going north of Waco that time of year.

FWIW, Battles can't match real Texas BBQ, not even "fast food BBQ" like Rudy's... And Rudy's is to any of the really great places like Salt Lick, Opie's or Bertram Smokehaus like McDonald's is to Fuddrucker's... Oh... I forget, y'all don't have any really good burger places up there either... Ah well.

Oh, I forgot to turn shameless gloat mode on...

I used to live in San Luis Obispo - to most people a far more desirable place to live than anywhere in Texas. Still, I moved back to Ames. Maybe some day you'll see why nobody is really losing much sleep over not living other places.

I'm not sure who "most people" are but California doesn't appeal to me much anymore. Nice weather but too many flaky people, insane cost of living and wacky politics/out of control legal system. I had to travel there some a few years ago when I worked for a major financial company. After spending the past 6 years in Texas I can't see why anyone would prefer CA. Most of the stereotypes people have about Texas are completely untrue, especially of the Austin area. And FWIW, even if the weather problem in Iowa could be fixed, I have little interest in returning. Not that there is much chance of that... quick searches on the job sites confirm the reason I left in the first place... lack of opportunity in the job market up there. Even as bad as the job market is in Austin, there are hundreds more job postings on dice.com down here than in central Iowa.
