Question Large piles of dirt north of Ankeny on west side of I-35

Anyone know what all of those piles of dirt along the side of the road are for?

Don't tell me they are building another interchange.

I haven't been down that way lately, but I am wondering if those piles have something to do with the new DOT driver's license station they are supposed to be building. Or is that still on hold? I haven't heard anything for a while.

I never thought of that (driver's license station). I saw the dirt mountains awhile back and wondered too.

From what I understand, there are plans to put an interchange in that area. There is a golf course near the planned interchange and a portion of it was exhanged/traded with the City of Ankeny (land for land). The dirt piles may the beginnings of the new portion of the golf course.

Default Large piles of dirt north of Ankeny

Those piles of black dirt are either part of a new housing development,or the expansion of the golf course. It seems like last summer there were some signs on the North end of Delaware St. which is the first road West of the interstate, and North of that golf course. There's been so much developing in that area,I think housing is the likely answer. It wouldn't surprise me if Hubbell Development didn't buy that ground. Pretty soon Alleman will be a suburb of Ankeny.

I drove by this area again today. Whatever they are doing, the bulldozers were hard at it and they are further north than it was 2 months ago.

It is a golf coarse. There are plans to add an interchange in that vicintiy (I think NW 36th), but that is still a few years off from happening.

Correction, I meant NE 36th, not NW...
